Jordan, Sr., who was an equipment supervisor. When Jordan was a toddler his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. There Jordan attended Emsley A. Laney High School and became avidly involved in a multitude of extracurricular activities such as baseball, football and basketball. However after being cut from the varsity basketball team as a sophomore (as he was deemed too short at 5 11 to play guard) Jordan became immensely frustrated with his failure to join the team, as a result Jordan was strongly motivated and determined to prove his worth to the basketball team as he worked rigorously over the summer to prepare for next year’s try outs. Incredibly he would go on to grow another four inches over the summer and make the team with ease as he earned a starting spot on the team and became a high school sensation dominating the landscape of high school basketball. In his final year as a senior he was selected to the McDonald s All-American Team and became an extremely coveted star by some of the nation’s best basketball Colleges such as Virgina, Syracuse, South Carolina, North Carolina and Duke.
